Eligibility

Nominations should relate to projects or people within the Middle East and North Africa region (although companies can be based anywhere in the world). For the purposes of these awards, this includes; UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, and Sudan.

Any company/individual working in or with substantial responsibilities in the agribusiness industry in the Middle East region are eligible to participate. This can include individuals, agribusiness, aquaculture, veterinary organizations, students and researchers, engaged in relevant projects.

Industry professionals may nominate their own or other organisations, departments and teams that deserve recognition.

Farm Innovation Award – Agriculture

Finalists in this category will have proven results in using technology in an innovative way to solve the challenges that face the Agricultural sector in the region. Your innovation will be of high value to both the business and the sector that you serve and will have created a significant competitive advantage. You should be able to demonstrate partnership and forward thinking in the application of your innovation.

Key Selection Criteria:

Your application needs to address each of the following key selection criteria:

  • The innovation should be new to the market (introduced post January 2014)
  • Demonstrates high potential profitability through successful adoption of new products or processes
  • Innovation of high value to the customer
  • Demonstrates a long term commitment to innovation through continuous effort to be produce efficiently and cost effectively

Farm Innovation Award – Aquaculture

This award recognises research, innovation and adoption of new technologies. It is aimed at identifying and rewarding excellence, innovation and leadership and celebrates the value and importance that aquaculture plays in ensuring the economic prosperity of the region and providing sustainable food supply.

Finalists in this category will have proven results in using technology in an innovative way to solve the challenges that face the aqua sector. Your innovation will be of high value to both your business and the sector that you serve and will have created a significant competitive advantage.

Key Selection Criteria:

Farm Innovation Award - Animal Production

The award recognises the implementation of an innovative product/project in animal production that has had a positive impact on the market. Successful entries will display good management practices, including appropriate feeding, healthcare, selection and development of breeds, and will provide solutions the challenges that face the animal production sector.

Your innovation will be of high value to both your business and the sector that you serve and will have created a significant competitive advantage.

Key Selection Criteria:

Your application needs to address each of the following key selection criteria:

  • The innovation should be new to the market (introduced post January 2014)
  • Demonstrates high potential profitability through successful adoption of new products or processes
  • Innovation of high value to the customer
  • Demonstrates a long term commitment to national/regional innovation through investment, joint ventures or other alliances
  • Demonstrated ability to meet market needs through demand focus
  • Innovations in developing methods/processes to limit impacts on the environment and ensure the sustainability of ecosystems
  • Development or use of new or unique product
  • Demonstrate competitive advantage of the product recognized on a prominent and far-reaching scale
  • Show products' ability to work effectively within wider Middle East and North Africa region
  • Impact of applicant/applicants' product on ability of wider rural sector to grow and diversify

Organic Farming Innovation Award

The award recognises the implementation of an innovative product/project/method in organic farming (plant production/animal production/fisheries) that has contributed to the Middle East/North Africa organic farming market. Your innovation will be of high value to both the business and the sector that you serve and will have created a significant competitive advantage. You should be able to demonstrate partnership and forward thinking in the application of your innovation in the region.

Key Selection Criteria:

Your application needs to address each of the following key selection criteria:

  • The innovation should be new to the market (introduced post January 2014)
  • Demonstrates high potential profitability through successful adoption/development of new products/processes/market
  • Innovation of high value to the region’s consumers and environment
  • Demonstrates a long term commitment to innovation through continuous effort to be produce efficiently and cost effectively considering the environmental impact

Food Security / Climate Change Innovation Award

The finalist in this category will have demonstrated the use of technology in an innovative way to meet the challenges facing food security and climate change in the Middle East/North Africa. Your innovation will be highly valuable in improving food security and adapt to climate change, and will create a significant competitive advantage. You must be able to demonstrate partnership and forward thinking in the application of your innovation.

Key Selection Criteria:

Your application needs to address each of the following key selection criteria:

  • The innovation should be new to the market (introduced post January 2014)
  • Demonstrates the high potential profitability through the successful implementation of new products or processes
  • Innovation of high value to customers
  • Help in finding new ways to adapt to climate change in the Middle East/North Africa
  • Contributes to enhancement of food security in Middle East/North Africa
  • Demonstrates the long term commitment to innovation through continuous effort because the produce efficient and cost-effective

Best New Product for the Middle East Market – Aquaculture

The Award for Best New Product recognises exciting new products recently launched to market offering a point of difference from their competitors. 

Submitting an entry entails demonstrating extensive product management capabilities. The product will have been introduced into the market and provide demonstrable improvements for farmers in any aspect of practical aquaculture.

Key Selection Criteria:

To ensure all participants have equal chances in their preparation of proposals the following eligibility criteria will apply:

  • The product should be new to the market (introduced post January 2014)
  • Growth in production or sales
  • Demonstrate competitive advantage of the product recognised on a prominent and far-reaching scale
  • Show products' ability to work effectively within Middle East and North Africa farm practices
  • Impact of applicant/applicants' product on ability of wider rural sector to grow and diversify
  • Development or use of new or unique product
  • Demonstrated ability to meet market needs through demand focus

Excellence Award for Student Innovation

This Excellence Award for Student Innovation in Agriculture / Aquaculture/ Veterinary is given to recognize the individual student or group of students for the submission of a product or research project that has demonstrated innovative, sustainable thinking and will have an impact on the Agra/Aqua/Vet industry.

Judges will be assessing each submission in terms of addressing a specific need in the industry, the research methods, solution(s) and how the information is presented.

Key Selection Criteria:

To ensure all participants have equal chances in their preparation of proposals the following eligibility criteria will apply:

  • The student(s) must be currently enrolled in an Institution for Higher Education located in the Middle East region
  • The student’s age should not exceed 30 years at the time of application
  • PhD students are excluded from participation

A separate award will be presented for each category.
